Year Three
Class teacher: Miss Jukes
Support staff: Mrs Aldridge
Welcome to Year 3!
Year 3 is an exciting transition into Key Stage 2, where children begin to take more responsibility for their learning. While the expectations are higher, the year is designed to be both challenging and fun. Students will explore fascinating Adventures focusing on the likes of Ancient Greece and volcanoes, sparking their curiosity and creativity.
This year, children are encouraged to work more independently, managing their time and tasks, while still receiving the support they need. Overall, Year 3 is a great balance of academic growth and engaging, hands-on learning in a supportive environment, where your child will feel confident and excited to learn.
Please see the termly overviews to find out what your child will be learning each term.
Y3 Autumn 2 Overview
To end our Gymnastics unit, the children created routines using turns, jumps and linked their movements well.
We conducted an experiment to find out what colour flower pollinating animals prefer. We poured sugar water onto the flowers to attract more pollinating animals.
The children did some guided visualisation and we then read Genesis 1:28-30. We then looked at what God meant by this and used cards ordering them most likely to least likely.
For World Mental Health Day, the children added something yellow to their uniform, we spoke about how it is ok to not be ok and how we can support each other.
Y3 were very lucky to have Maggie come and visit us in the library. We were able to give her treats, ask her to follow simple instructions and give her lots of fuss!
We have all identified what we want to be when we we are older - some amazing aspirations Y3!
24/25 Academic Year Learning
Y3 were extremely lucky to have a visit from St John Ambulance to learn about emergency services, numbers, what to do in an emergency and stings and bites.
In our English lessons, we are writing a newspaper report about Steve Reed. He is the Secretary of State for Environment. We have created a newsroom to inspire our journalists and expose the children to the types of jobs within this field.
The children took part in a Greek taste test. They were amazing at trying all the new foods!! They also took part in a challenge to decode the Greek alphabet into English!
For our Fantastic Finish, the children made their own Stone Age home! They used wooden sticks to do so. They faced multiple challenges and we reflected on how hard it would have been in that period of time.
