Design Technology
Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the key knowledge and skills they need for future learning and for adult life. It provides a strong foundation, enabling every child to grow in confidence, develop a love of learning and be fully prepared for the next stage of their education. We do this by teaching Design and Technology (DT) to inspire creativity, develop problem-solving skills, and encourage practical thinking. The curriculum is purposely adapted to help pupils with SEND access core knowledge and skills. In DT, children explore designing, making, and evaluating products while learning essential skills such as planning, measuring, joining, and improving their work. We cover a broad range of topics including mechanisms, textiles, structures, cooking and nutrition, and electronics, giving pupils opportunities to apply knowledge from other subjects such as maths, science, and art. Through this, our children develop resilience, independence, and confidence in turning ideas into real, functional outcomes, preparing them for challenges both in school and in the wider world.
