Science

At Holy Trinity, we firmly believe that every pupil has the potential to become a scientist! Our aim is to instil a sense of awe and wonder about the world and beyond, nurturing curiosity and providing opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Our goal is to ensure that children acquire the necessary skills to excel in biology, chemistry, and physics and develop crucial life skills and aspirations for their future careers. We strive to equip them with the ability to work scientifically, as outlined in the National Curriculum.

Curriculum:

  • Science is taught as part of our Adventure Curriculum. As with Religious Education, we teach Science in a week block unit. We do this to enable teachers to delve deep into the curriculum with pupils. Children are exposed to multiple scientific investigations during a science week and have the opportunity to read relevant texts/books during VIPERS (guided reading) sessions. Everything during this week will be themed around the Science unit being covered.
  • In Early Years, science is integrated into Understanding the World, allowing children to engage with scientific concepts through play and guided activities.

Approach:

  • Our science curriculum aims to foster an understanding of natural phenomena and ignite curiosity in children.
  • We encourage scientific inquiry, teaching children to ask questions and understand the impact of science on personal, national, and global levels.
  • Each topic within our curriculum provides a sequence of lessons enabling children to ‘work scientifically’ and develop scientific language.
  • Practical learning is integrated into every lesson, providing hands-on experiences to reinforce learning and understanding.

At Holy Trinity we are committed to providing a stimulating and enriching science education that prepares our pupils for future success while nurturing their innate curiosity and passion for discovery. Join us as we embark on an exciting journey of scientific exploration and learning!
