Modern Foreign Language - French
Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the key knowledge and skills they need for future learning and for adult life. It provides a strong foundation, enabling every child to grow in confidence, develop a love of learning, and be fully prepared for the next stage of their education. The French curriculum is also purposely adapted to help pupils with SEND access core knowledge and skills.
French is taught through the multi-award-winning foreign language resource ‘Language Magnet’, which includes 12 modules of foundational language carefully designed for primary schools. The programme helps pupils achieve a high standard of foreign language acquisition. Each module is broken into sub-topics that build on one another, recycling and developing language structures from previous modules. This ensures a clear progression in both language and grammar throughout the course.
The Language Magnet scheme develops the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Audio sheets include QR Codes, allowing pupils to listen to the language they have learned at home using a mobile device. Lessons also include regular vocabulary practice, listening activities, fun games, and songs to make learning engaging and memorable.

We also celebrate European Day of Languages every year. Pupils in Key Stage Two take part in a carousel of exciting activities, celebrating language learning and deepening their understanding of cultures across Europe.
