Writing
At Holy Trinity, we are committed to ensuring every child has the strongest opportunities for their future. From the very start of their learning journey, all children are introduced to early reading and writing skills.
Reading skills are developed through our phonics programme, Read, Write, Inc. (RWI). This approach helps children build a strong understanding of phonics, enabling them to become confident readers, spellers, and writers.
We encourage all children to become exceptional writers, providing regular opportunities to produce extended pieces across a range of genres. Teachers ensure that pupils are exposed to a rich variety of high-quality, subject-specific vocabulary, which they are encouraged to use and spell accurately in their independent writing.
Writing is fully embedded within our Adventure Curriculum, offering exciting opportunities for children to explore language through drama, poetry and purposeful writing experiences linked to their learning adventures.
Our writing is taught through an English learning cycle, where children are introduced to key grammatical skills and guided on how to apply these within meaningful contexts. In Years 3–6, pupils edit and improve their first drafts using our ‘Ready, Steady, Go’ approach.
We focus on quality over quantity, nurturing confident, capable writers who take pride in their work and develop a genuine love of writing - all firmly connected to our school’s adventure approach to learning.
