Art
Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the key knowledge and skills they need for future learning and for adult life. It provides a strong foundation, enabling every child to grow in confidence, develop a love of learning and be fully prepared for the next stage of their education. We do this by… providing engaging and inspiring opportunities, which will challenge our pupils, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to become confident and competent artists.
At Holy Trinity, we believe Art is a vital part of every child’s education. Art allows our children to experiment, invent and create their own artwork, in a supportive environment where they feel free and safe to express themselves. Pupils explore a wide range of materials, techniques and processes, including drawing, painting, sculpture and digital media. Pupils are also introduced to significant artists and designers from different time periods and cultures, helping them to understand the historical and cultural development of art.
We teach Art to:
-
Foster creativity, imagination and originality
-
Develop fine-motor skills, visual-spatial awareness, and perseverance
-
Encourage self-expression and confidence through visual means
-
Promote critical thinking and the ability to analyse and discuss artwork, including their own
-
Enable children to reflect on and evaluate their creative choices
-
Help pupils understand the role of art in society, culture and heritage
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression of knowledge, skills, and techniques from Early Years all the way through to Key Stage 2. We provide opportunities for all children to demonstrate their creativity and we celebrate their artistic achievements by sharing their work throughout the year.
Art at Holy Trinity is inclusive, enriching, and accessible to all pupils, including SEND pupils. It is not only a subject within our curriculum, but is a powerful tool through which our children can explore the world and truly express themselves as individuals.
