rELIGIOUS eDUCATION
Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the key knowledge and skills they need for future learning and for adult life. It provides a strong foundation, enabling every child to grow in confidence, develop a love of learning and be fully prepared for the next stage of their education. We do this by providing a rich and inclusive Religious Education curriculum that reflects our identity as a Church of England school and respects the diverse faiths and worldviews within our community.
We follow the Understanding Christianity framework alongside the Walsall SACRE Agreed Syllabus to ensure high-quality teaching of Christianity and a broad, balanced exploration of other world faiths. To ensure that every child can participate meaningfully and make progress, our curriculum is carefully adapted to support pupils with SEND, enabling all learners to access core knowledge and skills.
Religious Education is taught in weekly blocks each term, allowing children the time and focus to explore topics in depth. This structure encourages enquiry-based learning, where pupils ask and investigate big questions about life, meaning and purpose. It helps develop deep thinking, reflection and respectful dialogue, nurturing thoughtful, compassionate members of society who are prepared to engage positively with people of different faiths and beliefs.
To bring RE learning to life and promote deeper understanding, we provide opportunities for children to:
-
Handle religious artefacts and explore their significance.
-
Study sacred texts to understand their meaning and impact.
-
Welcome visitors from different faith communities and visit places of worship.
-
Celebrate, pray and reflect together as part of our Christian ethos.
-
Engage with our local church and Reverend through collective worship.
-
Compare religions and worldviews through discussion, enquiry and debate.
-
Respond creatively to images, stories, music, art, dance and drama to enhance empathy and engagement.
Through this approach, we nurture pupils who are knowledgeable, reflective and respectful, ready to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
