Relationships, Sex and Health Education / pERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH AND ECONOMIC eDUCATION

At Holy Trinity, we believe every child is loved by God and has the right to grow up feeling safe, valued and respected. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) teaching helps children learn how to look after themselves, build positive relationships and understand the diverse world they live in. Our curriculum also helps children to:

  • Learn how to keep themselves healthy and safe

  • Respect and celebrate diversity

  • Grow in confidence, resilience and self-worth

As part of our PSHE curriculum, we follow the Church of England Charter for faith-sensitive and inclusive Relationships Education. This ensures that our teaching is rooted in Christian values of love, kindness and respect, while also being inclusive of all children and families within our school community.

What children learn

  • Friendships & Families – kindness, respect, honesty and the many different forms families can take

  • Safety & Boundaries – personal space, privacy, consent and keeping safe both offline and online

  • Feelings & Wellbeing – recognising emotions, managing big feelings and supporting mental health

  • Healthy Living – nutrition, exercise, sleep, hygiene and self-care

  • Growing & Changing – learning about the body, puberty and preparing for changes with confidence

  • Respecting Difference – through the No Outsiders programme, children learn to value diversity and understand equality

Supporting every child

At Holy Trinity we know every child learns differently. Our RSHE and PSHE lessons are carefully adapted so that:

  • All pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), can access the core knowledge and skills

  • Content is broken down into small, manageable steps with visual aids and repetition

  • Lessons are taught in safe, familiar environments with trusted adults

  • Pupils are given extra time, personalised resources and practical examples where needed

  • Every child is supported to develop independence, confidence and understanding at their own pace

Preparing for the future

Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the key knowledge and skills they need for future learning and for adult life. It provides a strong foundation, enabling every child to:

  • Grow in confidence and self-belief

  • Develop a love of learning

  • Be fully prepared for the next stage of their education

We do this by:

  • Building secure foundations in relationships, wellbeing and health from the earliest years

  • Giving children the tools to communicate, problem-solve and make safe, informed choices

  • Helping pupils to understand and value difference so they can thrive in a diverse society

  • Equipping children with strategies to stay physically and mentally healthy

  • Creating a culture of openness where children know it is safe to ask questions and seek help
